1st Prize- World Press Organization

I think this photograph creates a very jarring and contrasting image of how we percieve modern Lebanon to be. Taken at the time of Beirut's bombing, we clearly see the destruction in the background. The fact that the photographer has seemed to juxtapose the elite with the poor evokes mixed feelings in the viewer. We can't seem to fully comprehend how one sect of society can sit back and watch this happen to its fellow members. The rift in socio-economic power and status is significantlly present and visible to the viewer. The choice to detach themselves from this horror and act and watch as standbyers is also clearly visible. All in all, i think this photograph goes a long way to say, give, depict and evoke the many different nuances of Lebanese society and humanity in general.

Pic of the Week 3

This image was taken at the National Art Gallery in Washington D.C. , during my recent trip there. It was actually a close-up of a very interesting fower with great texture and color to it. I shot using a shallow depth of field and wanted to caputure the contrast of the muted color of the flower to the green in the background. Overall I really like this image because of ambiguity given to the photograph.

Work of Karl Blossfeldt

I really like the composition of this image because of the fact that it exhudes a graphic element to the entire photograph. The capturance of the curves of the stem and the fronds creates a magical appearance of a graphic imprintation. The photographer did a great job in capturing a perfect harmony and balance of the stems and fronds in the photograph.
